This is our favorite part of every project — getting to know you and understanding the styles, colors and materials that make you happy. We use the DesignFiles digital design platform to make it easy to share ideas, starting with a short questionnaire so we can better understand your space, your likes and dislikes, and your goals. DesignFiles is a wonderful visual tool to keep all the information about your project organized in one location. You can upload measurements and photos of your existing space and furniture, share links to sites or Pinterest images that inspire you, and more.

Our a la carte design consulting approach lets you select the services that fit your project needs, from a single impactful tile layout for a kitchen or employee break room to full-service space planning, material selection and sourcing, shopping and installation.

Depending on the services provided, we can work flat rate by project or by the hour. Often we are able leverage the professional discounts offered to us to offset our fees.

We strongly believe that design should be accessible to all, from a studio apartment to a multi-room renovation. That’s why we work hard to add value and accommodate any budget, as long as it’s established prior to beginning a project. Budget parameters shape our creative recommendations, as well as the types of materials we use in the design process.
-
Our process begins with an initial phone call to discuss the project at hand. Next comes the actual consultation, where we conduct an in-depth site visit to determine what’s working and what’s needed to accomplish your goals for the space. During the consultation, we’ll provide you with a detailed design plan, including paint and lighting recommendations, furniture arrangement, flooring types, and shopping ideas transform your space.
-
Our strength lies in our detailed communication process and documentation of each project phase. Depending on the nature of your project, this can include sketches, CAD design plans, digital design boards, samples and renders, spec sheets for renovations such as a kitchen or bath, and detailed project schedules and task lists to keep you informed about the status of your project. As far as communication, we work how you like to work, whether you prefer text, email or using our DesignFiles portal. It’s all about making the process as straightforward and stress-free for you as possible.

The most common misstep we see is involving an interior designer later in the process rather than at the start of a project, which can lead to expensive mistakes and missed opportunities. For example, during a living room color refresh we’ll help you identify the undertones off basic colors and build from there, rather than trying to overcome the limitations of a palette that doesn’t work with your needs or vision. On larger renovation projects, we add value by collaborating with your architect and contractor to highlight key features based on use of space. It’s far easier to make changes on paper rather than post-construction.
-
Timelines will of course vary depending on the nature and complexity of your project. From design consultation to first deliverable generally takes about two weeks’ turnaround time for best results. When we’re not in direct contact, we’re working on your design plans, preparing color recommendations, sourcing products and other tasks for a fantastic outcome you’ll be proud to showcase.

As independent design consultants, we are brand-agnostic. That means we are not limited to a single showroom or design resource when we create design boards or recommend furniture, fabrics and finishing touches. Nor are we limited to retail stores and showrooms. If you’re looking for something truly unique, our connections extend to antique stores, thrift shops, flea markets, craftspeople, workrooms and galleries. When we receive a trade-only discount, we use those savings to help offset our consulting fees if possible.
